Previous PSE Projects: Suleja Dam and Water Supply Project, Niger State

In 1991, the Niger State Government of Nigeria embarked on the Suleja Dam and Water Supply project, aimed at ensuring sustainable water resources for the Suleja area. With a total project cost of $64 million USD, funded by the African Development Bank, this initiative marked a significant milestone in regional development.
Design and Construction
PSE Consultants Limited led the design and construction supervision, while Impresit Bakolori handled the construction. The dam is a 20-metre-high homogenous earth structure, stretching 1,200 metres in length. The reservoir covers an area of 5 square kilometres and holds approximately 30 million cubic metres of water.
Key Features
- The Curved Spillway — a 105-metre curved spillway designed for increased discharge capacity, space efficiency, and energy dissipation.
- Intake Tower and Tunnel — connected to the other side of the dam via a 125-metre tunnel, housing adjustable valves to regulate downstream release for domestic and agricultural needs.
Impact
The project significantly enhanced water availability in the region, supporting local agriculture and improving living conditions.
